2300 Arena: My 10yr. Project

A tribute to old ECW Arena
The mural that started it all
The mural that started it all

My work with the 2300 Arena began in 2014 with a mural celebrating the building’s history as a wrestling venue, the old ECW Arena. This mural was the start of a 10-year transformation of a thousand-person entertainment venue. Below are before-and-after pictures, the simplest way to narrow down a decade of work. Pictures of each wall, accompanied by a brief description of concept and work done.

The space began as a blank canvas with so much potential and a vague concept of wanting it to feel like an outdoor courtyard. With the understanding there was little to no budget, I offered my expertise as a muralist to develop creative and economical solutions to bring that vision to life.

Front Entrance:
The venue is located off the beaten path, one of the most common issues were people not being able to find the building. By creating two entrances, 2300 (the main arena) for large events and  bar2300 (the lobby) for smaller events. This allowed guest to feel they were entering into a more intimate bar environment also allowing for outdoor seating.
*Respnsible for overall painting of building. Did not build out additional entrance.

The building was operational throughout this process. The routine became: do an event, do a project. I learned to work with what was available—repurposing, getting creative with materials laying around from construction, and paint... lots and lots of paint. As I worked my way around the 5,400-square-foot lobby, it became an ever changing environment shaped by the character and needs of the venue.

East Wall Entrances:
The intention was to bring in elements from the surrounding area, creating a destination feeling while maintaining the industrial feel of the neighborhood and building.
*Mural: 20ft x 60ft  LED light runs the length of the bridge, cinderblock faux finish to resemble brick, stretched canvas sound panels sporadically placed in the ceiling with outdoor string lights being the primary light source.
South wall / Arena Entrance:
As you enter, a deco style box office and grand theater entrance into a black box arena.
*Hand painted wood signage, custom built working clock, faux finished brick cinderblock & Stone tile work
West Wall: Left to right
"Back Alley Entrance" repurposed fire door, concreted wall, hand painted signage. "General Store" additional POS station. Textured wall paint, hand painted signage. "Subway" entrance into the bathrooms, tiled throughout, hand painted resin signs. "Barrel Storage Yard" wall stickers accented and framed with wood."Butcher Shop" entrance into the kitchen, Butcher mural, stucco textured wall creating a back delivery door feel.
*I did not build out concrete wall, window opening in General Store, or any permanent electric

North Wall:
Main Bar: Preserving the original characteristics of what used to be an outside wall, the cinder blocked window frames, graffiti, paint lines, it became the building blocks for the bar. Wheat paste murals, live edge wood and galvanized pipe shelving, 50ft Hemlock bar.
*I did not build the physical bar.
DETAIL PICTURES:

These images represent a small snapshot of the work I accomplished with 2300. In addition to the Lobby renovation, I created countless temporary sets, themed environments, event configurations, assembled and created custom furniture. Building points-of-sale areas designed to complement the incredible variety of events hosted at the 2300 Arena. It was never simply about painting a wall. It was about looking at a space, seeing its potential, and figuring out how to transform it with whatever resources were available.
